John's a true vinyl virtuoso with 36 years in the audio industry and a pivotal 29 of those years shaping soundscapes at Definitive. His sonic journey took a turn in 1989 in a high-end audio shop in Columbus, Ohio. There, the futuristic vibes of Thomas Dolby’s "Airhead" pulsed through an Infinity Beta speaker system with Krell electronics, sparking not just enthusiasm but a career shift that had him ditching his old job faster than a needle drops on a hot record. John's life has been a mixtape of high-fidelity fun ever since.
In 1985 on my first night in Chicago to attend and play basketball for Roosevelt University, I went out with a group of people attending the Art Institute of Chicago to Grant Park where a huge screen was showing music videos by alternative groups like The Talking Heads and Laurie Anderson. I had never heard this music before, coming from The Stray Cats and Prince being the most alternative I knew, and it began a musical discovery journey that I continue today, being attracted to alternative groups that most people haven’t heard of like Amyl and The Sniffers and Khruangbin.
